Dear Families and friends of CMS,
Happy Week 11! As we approach the holidays, we want to take a moment to wish each one of you a happy, blessed and safe Easter break. May this be a time for rest, relaxation and reflection on what has been a very busy term.
As Term 1 draws to a close it is important to reflect on all that has been achieved as a school community. Students and their teachers are now in the full swing of learning after settling into the routines and expectations of a new school year. It has been wonderful to witness the growth of each student and celebrate the many learning milestones that each have reached throughout the term. We also have watched our School Ready Program students flourish during their first 5 weeks of the program. Gathering as a community on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday to begin our season of Lent was a wonderful way to walk the first steps of our Lenten journey. Our Year 3 and 5 students undertook NAPLAN during Week 7 and 8. We shared languages and culture in a sea of orange for Harmony Week and then celebrated learning progress and set goals during 3-way learning conversations. We ended the term on a high with Sports Day, it was wonderful to see demonstrations of superb sportsman ship and of our PBIS values of growth, safety, respect and belonging. Congratulations to John Smith for winning the Sports Day Shield and to Mercy, John Coolock and Harley for their efforts. A huge shout out to Fabian Chevalier for planning another fantastic day and for the maintenance team for their execution of it all, and a big thanks to our Parents & Friends for volunteering and helping with the sausage sizzle.
Just a reminder that Term 2 commences on Monday the 28th of April.
Yours in Faith, Growth & Unity

Blessings All, I hope you are all travelling well and are ready for some quality time with your children.
It has been a busy first term, so much has happened and celebrated within the School Community; Children Achievements, Harmony Week, Sports Day, Ash Wednesday, Stations of the Cross, just to mention a few. Each activity and celebration have been a beautiful experience because of the Catherine McAuley School community created by the wonderful children.
I would like to thank you for your support with the Project Compassion fundraising. The generosity from the children and families was overwhelming. Not only were the classroom Project Compassion boxes filled, but the boxes also sent home were returned with gracious hearts. Thank you so much!
As this Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week with Palm Sunday, what a more fitting way to acknowledge Holy Week was with the re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross by our Mercy Leaders under the guidance of Ms Holland at our Friday Assembly. The children were brilliant depicting the crucifixion of our saviour Jesus Christ. Please join us in term two, Friday week one for our welcome back and Easter Liturgy. When we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
As the term ends, enjoy the time home with your children, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you all next term.
I would like to share an Easter prayer.
Gracious God,
As we reflect on Easter,
may we carry Your love and redemption in our hearts.
Guide us in living out the Easter message daily
and sharing Your light with the world.
Amen
I hope you all have a safe and peaceful Easter, with your family and friends.
Blessings,
Maria Girolamo-Corbo
Assistant Principal in Religious Identity and Mission

ANZAC Day will be commemorated during these school holidays. There are many ways you can remember our heroes, both past and present. The Department of Veterans' Affairs has a wonderful website filled with facts about our history, veterans’ stories, and interactive games and activities for all ages. Take the time to visit the website here: https://anzacportal.dva.gov.au/
We also have many military museums here in SA. These include the Army Museum of South Australia at Keswick Barracks, the National Military Vehicle Museum located at Edinburgh, the Maritime Museum, and the South Australian Aviation Museum, both located in Port Adelaide.
Each of these museums offers hands-on exhibits and provides plenty to see for all ages. They are certainly worth the visit!
Farewell to our families leaving us this term. We wish you all the best on your next posting. Have a lovely school holiday break, and I look forward to seeing you all back in Term 2.

This week, our Year 2 students had a wonderful time working alongside their Year 5 buddies to create Easter baskets. After a meaningful discussion about the real meaning of Easter, students worked with their buddies to put together these festive baskets. Our baskets are special and have a cross with a purple prayer cloth to signify Lent and the words 'Jesus has risen' to help explain the significance of Easter. A big thank you to our Year 5 buddies for their guidance and support!

SAPSASA District Athletics Carnival
Last week, twenty-one year 4-6 students represented Catherine McAuley School at the SAPSASA District Athletics Carnival at Munno Para Little Athletics Club.
Our school values were highly evident by all students involved in the carnival, and all students should be very proud of their achievements on the day. Many ribbons were won and overall Catherine McAuley finished 4th out of a total of 13 schools.
Throughout the day there were many outstanding individual performances. Five students have been selected to represent the Playford SAPSASA District at the State Athletics Carnival held at the Santos Stadium later this year, congratulations to Braxlin Karpeh, Ryder McConnell-Cotton, Cohen Walkington, Ayat Patrick and Jaquierah Gibson-Gray.
Thank you to all of the students for their efforts and commitment to representing Catherine McAuley School. I would also like to thank Miss Allen and Mrs Sheppard for their help and support on the day, ensuring that each student reached their event on time.
Athletes will begin preparing for the Catholic Schools Athletics Carnival in Term 3.
Great effort team!
State Athletics Carnival
Last Tuesday, Catherine McAuley School was well represented at the State Athletics Carnival held at Bridgestone Stadium. Logan Schunke, Godfrey Mutusva, Lilly-Rose Parker, Amarni Binder, Ruby Smart, Max Johnson, Noah Mail, Indiahna Coplestone and Chloe Paoletti represented the Playford SAPSASA District Athletics team. All students put in a fantastic performance in less than favourable conditions for athletics.
Congratulation to Logan Schunke who achieved a silver medal in the High Jump and Godfrey Mutusva a bronze medal in the 200m.

Yesterday, Catherine McAuley School celebrated Sports Day in perfect conditions (maybe a little warm) for running, jumping and throwing. Throughout the day, I was extremely impressed by the level of sportspersonship and respect shown by the students. The sense of teamwork and camaraderie amongst the houses was evident, led by our Sports Leaders. It was great to see the students demonstrating their, agility, coordination, speed and strength to the best of their ability throughout Sports Day.
Thank you to all the staff for their commitment and work leading up to Sports Day to ensure everyone had a great day. The students appreciated your enthusiasm, encouragement and willingness to get involved and celebrate a day of activity and fun.
I’d also like to congratulate the students on their willingness to demonstrate the Sports Day values of Respect, Growth, Safety and Belonging. Thank you to all the Sports Leaders for their help and support in preparing for and assisting on Sports Day. Thank you to the parents, grand parents and family friends who were able to join us on Sports Day and support their child/ren. They appreciated your encouragement and enthusiasm.
Congratulations to the John Smith team on winning the Sports Day Shield and Mercy on winning the Spirit Cup.

On Wednesday 9th April, fifteen of our students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Thriving People Festival held at the beautiful Carclew House. As part of the Kangaroo/Nantu group, we participated in four rich and engaging cultural activities that deepened our appreciation for First Nations knowledge, creativity, and connection to Country.
Our first workshop was Ghost Ropes Weaving with Narungga artist Sonya Rankine. Students learned weaving techniques to create a fish after hearing a Dreaming story or the great white shark.
Next, we joined Walking Together with Kaurna for a session of Aboriginal children’s games. Laughter and teamwork filled the air as students played the games building friendships and learning through fun.
After enjoying a delicious sausage sizzle and doughnut lunch, we got our hands dirty in the Native Seedlings Workshop with Nature Play SA. Students explored the importance of native plants and their role in supporting biodiversity and sustainability. Even tasting salt bush and looking at an emu egg.
Our final session of the day was tote bag decorating with Narungga artist Tanaya Antony. Using vibrant colours and First Nations symbols, students expressed themselves artistically, creating meaningful keepsakes to take home.
We were also privileged to experience a Welcome to Country from Adam Francis (Kaurna/Ngarrindjeri/Wirangu) and live musical performances by Katie Aspel (Ngarrindjeri/Gunditjmara), whose voice added a special energy to the day.
The Thriving People Festival was a truly memorable experience, connecting us with culture, creativity, and community. We’re grateful to CESA, Carclew House and all the organisers and presenters who made the day so meaningful and inspiring.

The Premier's Reading Challenge is in full swing at Catherine McAuley School. The Challenge requires students to read 12 books from the start of the year until the end of week 7, term 3. Students then record the titles of the books they read on a student reading record and hand in to the library. Students who complete the challenge receive an award which will be handed out in term 4.
A handful of our students have already completed the challenge. The first 3 students who completed the challenge received a special ribbon and bookmark this week to congratulate their efforts.
Well done to:
Aiden Simpson (6E) 1st
Mukudzei (Muku) Masumba (5E) 2nd
Chloe Draper (3E) 3rd
Last week the library held a competition to guess how many easter eggs were in a jar. The Catherine McAuley winner was Charlie Nash from 3M. Well done Charlie, enjoy your chocolate bunny!
